Detailed information for Bendigo Workshops Area.
Highlights:
The location where the Wallan, Heathcote and Sandhurst line joined what is now a parallel, loop siding, to the Bendigo-Echuca line.
The controlling Signalbox was Bendigo 'D' which still exists at the Nolan Street Crossing. The Signalbox also controlled train movements associated with the line to Eaglehawk and beyond, North Bendigo Workshops and the cattle yards that were once on the site of the College near the corner of Lloyd Street and Charleston Road.
There is well worn pathway, identified as the Railway Workshops Trail, from the O'Keefe Trail to the Workshops entrance road, behind the trees near the Workshops entrance proper, past remains of a wash dock, over the rail line leading to and from the Workshops, and then on to Charleston Road where it ends. When the Cattle Yards line was in use, it continued parallel to, and on the College side of, Lloyd Street. The path could provide a connecting cycle path to and from the CBD or the Spring Gully Trail one day.
This section is not part of the O'Keefe Rail Trail but, as there is supposed to be a bicycle path through the area, it is included as a matter of interest.
