• Wagon GY 16625 is returned to the Axedale Station site near Taig Road, Axedale, on March 4th. The wagon, rescued from decades of storage at Korumburra, road freighted to the Axedale site in ..., was originally constructed at the North Bendigo Railway Workshops in the 1960s. Restoration, a project of Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail, was carried out by the private entity, BRW, now occupying the Workshops site, from November, 2019, and it now occupies pride of place at the Axedale Station. During the process, the wagon was re-classified to its original classification of HY 16625.

February, 2009

• Following years of weathering, trail use and minimal maintenance, community concern then questioned the state of this aging rail trail. Not only had the trail slipped off the radar for most trail users, it also had gaps in it due to six missing railway bridges, plus a held view that a new end destination of significance was needed. A core group of individuals came together with mutual concern about the condition of the then O'Keefe Rail Trail. They also had a vision to upgrade and extend it. Work on lobbying various levels of government and individuals started immediately.

• A group of four (Helen Cronin, Mark Slater, Garry Long, and Ken Hanson) became the steering group in forming the Friends of the Bendigo-Kilmore Rail Trail community group. Support grew, with Friends membership increasing following the holding of a rail trail public meeting in Bendigo. It was envisaged that the proposal for the trail's upgrade may be achieved within ten years, but this timeframe was soon to be shattered.
